As legend has it, back in the 1800s, the Verde Valley pioneers decided on the name Cohnville – named after one of the families that lived there. When the papers came back from Washington, they read it as Cornville and the pioneers accepted it. The 1880 Census could not find anyone named Cohn in the Verde Valley, however, there was a Mr. Cone who purchased a homestead in what is now called Page Springs.
