Soldiers Pass Sedona Rain Recap
Why Does Humidity Make Us Feel Uncomfortable?
While most of the country can be in stifling heat and humidity during the summer, the weather in Sedona, Arizona, is about average for this time of year during the monsoon. These 2025 temps are about average and should be similar in 2026. It is very rare to see temps over 107º. As an example, I have been tracking these temps since 2011. We have had 9 years with 10 days or less of 100º in the month of August. There have been 3 years that didn’t even recorded a temp that reached 100º in August.
Sedona Lacks Stifling Humidity
One big difference in all of Arizona is the lack of stifling humidity. Many states see high humidity and triple digit temperatures in August. Stifling humidity is non-existent in Sedona. The average humidity in August 2025 was 38%. On very warm days, the windows get closed about 9 to 10 AM and are opened up after 8 PM.
The human body cools when perspiration escapes the millions of pores in our skin and evaporates, causing the skin to cool (evaporative cooling). However, humidity forces the perspiration process to slow down or work harder. With all the surrounding moist air, the skin cannot cool, causing discomfort.
Humidity makes warm weather feel warmer and cold weather feel colder. Very low humidity can also be an issue for some. It may cause cracked skin and nose bleeds. For those who experience this, coconut oil is a remedy that can help.
Drink Plenty of Water...
Evaporative cooling speeds up in these conditions and may cause dehydration very quickly. Drink plenty of water in dry conditions. Know the limits of your exercise and exertion, especially when outside. We can adapt well to relative humidity between 30% and 70%. Ideal conditions have a humidity level of between 50% and 60%. The average humidity in Sedona is 47.5% (year-round), but humidity is a little higher during the monsoon. But it still falls within the comfort zone!
Thankful For A Full Monsoon
Besides all the beautiful images of sunrises and sunsets with colorful and dramatic clouds, we are usually blessed with a full monsoon. In 2025 it started a little earlier than usual. Tropical storms off the Baja Coast in the Pacific Ocean in late June brought a lot of moisture to Arizona and the Southwest. Since 2010, Soldiers Pass, Sedona, received the most rain at 33.15 inches in 2025.Total precipitation for 2025 included 19.25 inches of snow and 33.15 inches of rain. The most snow we have had cam in 2019 at 32.37 inches. Over 25 inches dropped in February of that year.Visit - "MONSOON! ~ What is it? ~ How Does It Affect Sedona and Arizona?"
What Stands Out...
We have been blessed with a lot of rain, snow and sunshine in 2025. There were 302 days and 292 in 2024. The lowest total days of sunshine I have recorded in Soldiers Pass was 283 days in 2021. The highest number of days was 2018 at 312 days of sunshine. 2024 had the warmest number of days over 90º at 143. For those who are unfamiliar with low humidity, temps under 100º are bearable but you have to stay hydrated. Hydration is the key to enjoying the weather. Days over 100º range between 25 and 52 for the entire year. 2024 was the exception at 75 days. The more days of monsoon and cloud cover keep the temps under down. During our winter months, the temps rarely end up below 40º. We have 2-3 days a years below 40º for a high. Because of the low humidity, the snow evaporates before it melts. We see very little ice buildup. When the sun is out snow goes away quickly. The only areas that retain snow are areas the sun can’t reach. Overall - Sedona is a beautiful place to live every season of the year. You get seasons, but they are bearable compared to other parts of the country.
